The provider who now spends 30 to 90 minutes with each patient once waited tables to put himself through nursing school, living in a trailer at his parents’ place. David Linton’s path to medicine wasn’t a straight line: and that’s exactly what makes him the kind of provider he is.
David didn’t start in healthcare. He earned a psychology degree from San Diego State and a master’s in industrial/organizational psychology, then built an early career on the corporate side of work, including time as an HR manager. Respectable on paper and earning good money: but it never gave him the thing he was looking for: a direct, tangible impact on people’s lives.
He found that while volunteering at a women’s shelter. The hands-on work gave him what he later called a “visceral” sense of purpose, and it changed everything. He decided to start over and pursue medicine from scratch.
Starting over wasn’t glamorous. He moved to Lake Havasu, lived in a trailer at his parents’ home, and worked as a server while putting himself through nursing school at Mohave Community College, earning his degree in 2009. The grit it took to wait tables by day and study nursing by night is the same grit his patients feel now in how thoroughly he shows up for them.
From there he kept climbing and kept chasing the root of things: earning his Nurse Practitioner master’s at Grand Canyon University and training across functional medicine, hormones, weight management, addiction medicine, and more. The trait that defined him all along never changed: going out of his way for people and taking time to educate his patients so they thoroughly understand their conditions and not keep repeating the same mistakes. In 2019, that earned him the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce Customer Service Excellence Award.
So why build his own practice? Because corporate medicine kept demanding more patients, faster: the opposite of the care that drew him in. With his wife and business partner Kezia running operations, he built Long Life Med to be the practice he always wanted: a roster capped at 300 so he can actually take care of people.
From a women’s shelter, to a trailer in Lake Havasu, to his own clinic, one thing stayed constant: David wanted his work to matter to the person in front of him.
